What Actually Matters

Colour your values

There are thousands of ways to describe our values. But when we are in the liminal space, remembering our own name can be… a challenge. This values activity gives you the time and space to continue putting together who you were, what's speaking to you now, and what's calling to you. Start with a nice thorough list of common values. Narrow it down to what speaks to you. Map out where those values sit throughout your life. Then decipher which ones keep jumping out. By the end we will have the main 5 values that feel deeply connected to the person showing up right now.

Circle what's true

Look through the list without overthinking it.

  • Single tap the values you've always believed were yours, the ones that feel familiar, maybe even expected.
  • Double tap whatever speaks to you right now, in this exact season, whether or not it makes sense yet.

You're not choosing the "right" answer, you're noticing where the old and the current might overlap, and where they might not.

Where do they live?

Now take everything you collected and let it find a home. Read through your list of values and place each one wherever it feels most real, even if it could fit in more than one spot. Pick the one that speaks loudest for that area, that just feels most true right now. Click on it to anchor it for that category. Take note of any value that lands in multiple categories.

The Big Five

Step back and look at what you've placed across all five categories. Which values keep showing up, in different ways, in different areas, again and again? They might all sit in one category, or they might be scattered across all of them. Either way, these are the threads worth following for the rest of this work.
